It's not time for you to board the plane, so why do you try?

So I've been doing some traveling lately and have been taking the airplane. One of the challenges of flying is trying to actually board the plane. As soon as the gate attendant announces that they will soon start boarding the plane, everyone seems to think it's actually time to get on the plane.
However, as most of you know, that's not how it actually works. The gate attendant usually announces how the plane is going to be boarded. It goes something like this with Delta Airlines:

1. Children and anyone who needs extra time to board
2. First Class and Business Class
3. Sky Priority members
4. Zone 1
5. Zone 2
6. Zone 3

Pretty simple right? You basically don't get up to board until you fall into the correct category right? Nope. It's almost guaranteed that someone from a different group will try to get on even though their group wasn't called up.

What does that mean? Unnecessary people blocking others who are trying to get on the plane. It's really funny when they call First/Business Class passengers to board the plane and someone with a Zone 2 ticket thinks they can get on board. The worst part is that they don't bother going back to their seat, they just stand right in front of the line waiting until they can go.

That's not too bad if it were just one person, but sometimes an entire family tries to get on early or a bunch of people try to get on early and now there's a group of people clogging up the front of the line.

I can understand you wanting to get on early before everyone else and I am guilty of trying to time the boarding process so that the last person of the group that gets on before me means that I am the first person to board in my group, but c'mon people! Don't try to board a plane when your zone is two or three zones away and all you end up doing is getting in the way of other people!

What are your horror stories of getting on the plane at the gate? Anyone delay you for no reason or just because they can't listen to instructions like everyone else?
